About one year ago we published our Vision Paper titled Sales Leadership Capital – Invest in Your Future.” And just recently we received the official Registration Certificate from the USPTO for the trademark on “grow your sales leadership capital.”

The Vision Paper outlines the tenets of the Sales Leadership model in the context of current and future trends for companies that need to manage issues outside their current capacity or their capabilities in sales leadership. It also describes this new category and approach to human capital management because growth requires an investment in Sales Leadership.

In the world of startups, exceptional growth trajectories have earned some companies the moniker of 'hyper-growth' entities. Industry titans such as Facebook, Slack, Dropbox, Zoom, and Google are often cited as paradigms of such growth, with their rapid user acquisition and revenue escalation. Hyper-growth is not confined to those metrics alone; ROI and EBITDA also serve as crucial indicators, particularly in sectors beyond SAAS. Ultimately, however, the spotlight shines brightest on top-line revenue growth.

And here Sales emerge as a competitive advantage: initially, it's about outperforming competitors and subsequently about being the best in the field. Achieving this entails dissecting sales into process, technology, and people, and meticulously refining each component.

Sales Leadership is the aggregation of all actions and qualities vital to crafting a premier sales organization aligned with this ambitious growth. It's often highlighted that the human element—cultivating a high-caliber sales team—is the most challenging aspect. Leaders frequently lament over the hiring and turnover of sales personnel, which usually stems from the complexity of assembling a proficient team.

The ideal sales team thrives on diversity and balance, boasting a mix of unique talents, specialists, and generalists, each contributing to a dynamic sales force with minimal turnover. These teams attract and retain top talent, further bolstering the sales apparatus. Sales team excellence constitutes the primary capital of any company, offering an unassailable competitive edge.

Capital, in broader terms, encompasses all assets that deliver value to its owners, including physical infrastructure, intellectual property, financial resources, and the skill and acumen of its workforce.

Leadership Capital is the amassed influence a leader holds, which empowers them to sway organizational or market dynamics. Like any capital, it's a finite resource that can accrue over time or dwindle through mismanagement. Astute leaders cultivate Leadership Capital, thereby enhancing their operational efficacy.

The consummate sales leaders build, maintain, and exploit Sales Leadership Capital—a potent form of influence based on the relationships, integrity, and trust forged with clients and partners. It's this capital that catalyzes confidence, informs purchasing decisions, hastens deal closures, and stimulates revenue growth.

Investing in Sales Leadership Capital, through external experience, training, and exemplary leadership, parallels investing in other human capital. The objective is a tangible return on investment—the quintessential measure of any investment's value.

The unequivocal reality is that growth necessitates an infusion into Sales Leadership Capital. This vision advocates for a universal acknowledgment among business leaders that investment in Sales Leadership Capital is as critical as product development or marketing. This investment is a prelude to growth, and those who forgo it risk obsolescence.
